Ellen Love Curry-Denys, 49, passed away in a fatal car accident April 5th, 2024. She will be remembered for giving generously of her time and spirit to her family and community, positively impacting countless people along the way.
Born on August 22nd, 1974, in Pennsylvania, Ellen and the Curry family would later settle in Southern California when she was a teen. Ellen graduated from Villa Park High School in 1993. She earned a degree in Communications from UCSD four years later, and went on to a successful 20-year career in marketing.
In 2001 while working and living in Los Angeles she met Steven Denys at a USC football game. He would become her husband in 2008. They moved to the San Francisco Bay area in 2009. After she and Steven welcomed their son, Nikolai, into the world in 2012 she embraced motherhood wholeheartedly.
Ellen's generosity and service to others was unlimited. Over many years she volunteered and organized campaigns and events for numerous causes including the African Library Project and 4-H Club. She shared her passions of yoga and meditation to others after completing instructor certification. In 2023 the family adopted a Rottweiler rescue, named Roxie.
Ellen's adventurous spirit was evident in her travels from Africa to Europe to Asia. She cherished exploring the beauty of the American West - from Sedona and Moab to Zion, Glacier, Grand Teton, and Yellowstone National Parks. In California, the family regularly traveled the coast from Pescadero to Carmel; and Lake Tahoe held a special place in her heart.
Ellen's legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Ellen was predeceased by her brother James. She is survived by her husband Steven, son Nikolai, parents Thomas and Maureen, and siblings Jennifer, Erin, Juliet, Charlie, and Cliff Curry. The family is holding a memorial service at St Gregory Church, San Mateo. She will be laid to rest at Skylawn Memorial Park overlooking the ocean.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in her name to the organizations listed under Giving.
